The morning the Advanced Placement scores drop is always quiet, but the anticipation in the hallways at Southside Christian School is exciting. For months, our classrooms are filled with the quiet work of students working hard to set goals and achieve them. When the Dean of Academics unveiled AP scores from the previous school year, the results told a story not just of individual academic success, but of a culture taking a massive leap forward in honoring the gifts entrusted to us.
At Southside Christian, we view academic rigor not merely as a pursuit of raising the bar, but of character and stewardship. God equips each student with unique intellect, capacity, and potential, and holding a high academic standard is our way of honoring those gifts. When we expand our AP curriculum, we aren't just adding courses to a syllabus. We are enlarging the vessels through which our students learn discipline and resilience, while growing academically in our community.
This year, a record 118 students stepped up to embrace that challenge, filling exam rooms to sit for 226 total exams—the highest volume in our school's recorded history. Expanding our AP offerings was a deliberate choice to open doors and steward our academic mission well. The question was never whether our students would take on the extra weight, but how faithfully they would carry it once given the opportunity.
The answer came back loud and clear.
An impressive 88% of our AP students scored a 3 or higher, earning college credit and marking a peak achievement for our program. Across all 226 exams, our overall pass rate reached 88%, boasting a school-wide average score of 3.6.
Behind those statistics are remarkable individual moments of faithful effort. Seven different subjects achieved a perfect 100% pass rate. In Calculus AB, students averaged a phenomenal 4.7 score, while English Literature (4.3 average), US History (4.1 average), and Statistics (3.6 average) saw every single test-taker earn a passing score. Down the hall, our studio artists posted a flawless set of top scores in Drawing and 3D Art & Design, while Humanities and STEM courses—from US Government (92% pass rate) and World History (95% pass rate) to Microeconomics (93% pass rate) and Chemistry (83% pass rate)—showed sweeping strength across the board.
What these numbers really reflect is a community living out its calling. They represent teachers who faithfully steward their expertise, parents who guide through stressful review weeks, and students who understand that cultivating their talents is an act of worship and preparation for service. This historic AP year at Southside Christian proves that when you view academics through the lens of stewardship, setting the bar high doesn't pressure students; it builds them.
