Each year, we take a moment at homecoming to recognize a Southside Christian School graduate who has demonstrated a lifestyle consistent with the Christ-like character, biblical values, and our expected student outcomes of spiritual formation in Christ, intellectual development, and cultural engagement.
This year's recipient of the distinguished alumni award is Trey Walpole!
Trey Walpole graduated from Southside Christian School in 2010. After graduating from SCS, Trey attended North Greenville University where he graduated in 2014 with a BA in history. He then attended the University of South Carolina School of Law where he received his Juris Doctorate (J.D.) in 2018. During law school he served as a Clerk to the Regulations and Regulative Procedures Committee.
After passing the bar exam in 2018, he went into private practice for three years, practicing probate, estate administration, and real estate transactions.
In December 2021, he accepted his current position to return to Director of Research - SC House of Representatives, Regulations and Regulative Procedures Committee. He now works directly with and on behalf of the committee members to interact with state agencies as they propose regulations.
Trey says, “I would never have gotten to this point in my career without SCS. Laurie Loper sought me out while a junior and basically said, ‘You need to go to YIG (Youth in Government).’ I blindly followed and I am so glad that I did. I was fortunate enough to be named Outstanding Statesman for S.C. my senior year at the conference. I can undoubtedly say that attending those two years gave me the passion for the political sphere that I incorporate daily into my work."
Trey is married to Sydney Walpole and they have two children, Horace E. Walpole, IV ("Ford") and Mary Lawrence.
We are proud to call Trey Walpole an alumnus of Southside Christian School!
The Distinguished Alumni Award is presented to one or more former students who are exemplary Christians and have demonstrated a desire to serve the Lord beyond their years at SCS.
