Welcome to the Department of College and Academic Planning at Southside Christian School. Rooted in our faith-based mission, we are dedicated to guiding our students through a transformative educational journey tailored to their individual aspirations and potential. Recognizing the unique God-given talents in each student, our team provides holistic academic advising and college preparation. We believe the college counseling process should focus on finding the right fit for each student. Whether a student's desire is to attend a prestigious academic university, a public university, or a uniquely focused university, we desire to walk alongside each family with an individual and intentional process.
We encourage our students to take ownership of their college search and explore a variety of college options to discover which characteristics are important to fostering their continued growth and development.
Alongside this, we host regular parent/student workshops designed to equip families with the knowledge and tools to navigate the complexities of academic planning and college readiness.
College Counseling
Our College Counseling program guides students and families through every stage of the college planning and application process. From exploring colleges and career interests to navigating applications, essays, and financial aid, we provide individualized support and expert guidance. Through workshops, one-on-one meetings, and family partnerships, we help students confidently pursue the college or career path that best aligns with their gifts, interests, and calling.
Our structured advising program is divided into two phases:
Foundations & Identity (9th - 10th Grades) - We facilitate student exploration within a biblical worldview, encouraging students to embrace their academic environment, establish healthy habits, and pursue the passions and gifts God has given them. We provide time and space for introspection and goal setting where students can reflect on their individual strengths, areas for growth, and how God is shaping their character and calling.
Charting the Path Forward (11th - 12th Grades) - Utilizing the momentum fueled by students' personal growth, juniors and seniors are equipped to steward their gifts well and apply their potential with purpose. In addition to continued opportunities for reflection and growth, junior year is dedicated to exploring college options that align with students' personal attributes, support their intellectual and spiritual growth, and provide exciting options for continued education in service of God's calling on their lives. By senior year, students understand the college admissions process and confidently present themselves in their applications as young men and women equipped to lead, serve, and thrive with purpose.
