From St. Louis to Southside Christian: How Jude Found His Crew

Jude Saunders ('28), As Told to The 1:7 Project
In Unmuted: The 1:7 Project, a student-led vlog captures the authentic voices and real-world impact of high schoolers at Southside Christian School. Grounded in Jeremiah 1:7—"Do not say, 'I am too young'... You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you"—this platform gives our students the mic to share how they are discovering their purpose and building a culture where students belong.

Moving across the country is never easy. When my family relocated from St. Louis, Missouri, I was coming from Chaminade College Preparatory School and didn't really know what to expect. But after my parents met some SCS students and heard great things, they booked a campus tour.

I spent part of my spring break shadowing at SCS. When school started, I connected with people on day one. By second semester—and especially after experiencing J-Term together—those initial connections turned into actual lifelong friendships.

A Day in the Life: Soccer, Block Schedules, and Big Plans

The 90-Minute Block Shift
When I first started, classes were much shorter. Switching to 90-minute blocks wasn't my favorite change at first, but it turned out to be a solid upgrade. The longer periods give you actual time in class to knock out homework, ask teachers questions, and breathe a little during class breaks.

Classes That Matter
Taking Financial Literacy last year was a game-changer. It’s stuff you actually use in the real world. Right now, I am prepping for the SAT (after tackling the PSAT and Pre-ACT) and planning to work closely with Director of College Counseling Alicia Womick. My main question for her will be: "What's the #1 thing I can do right now to get ready for college?"

Year-Round Soccer Life
If I'm not in class, I'm on the pitch. I play for the SCS Sabres and year-round club soccer with CESA (Carolina Elite Soccer Academy). I play alongside guys from all over the area. My goal is to study mechanical engineering and play Division I soccer on the East Coast, so college recruitment is huge for me right now.

Why SCS Hits Different

"It’s just a really good community. You can’t find this at a public school. It’s a place where you actually build lifelong friends and grow in your faith."

Whether you're moving from halfway across the country or just looking for a place where you actually belong, SCS isn't just a school—it's a launchpad.
