Instrumental Music

Beginner Concert Band or Beginner String Orchestra

Sixth-grade students interested in learning to play a concert instrument may choose either Concert Band or String Orchestra as an elective course.

Middle School Band

Band is an elective course for 7th and 8th-graders who wish to continue building instrumental technique while refining ensemble musicianship. This class will perform in several public concerts throughout the school year.

Middle School String Orchestra

String Orchestra is an elective course for 7th and 8th-graders who wish to continue building instrumental technique while refining ensemble musicianship. This class will perform in several public concerts throughout the school year.

High School Concert Band

Concert Band is an elective course for instrumentalists in Grades 9 through 12 who wish to increase their technical skill through the study of advanced concert music. This concert ensemble will perform throughout the school year, including the annual Spring Fine Arts Tour.

High School String Orchestra

String Orchestra is an elective course for students in Grades 9 through 12 who wish to increase their technical skill through the study of advanced orchestral music. This concert ensemble will perform throughout the school year, including the annual Spring Fine Arts Tour.

Beginner Handbells

This elective course is offered for students in Grades 9 through 12 who wish to study the fundamentals of music making through the unique form of ringing pitched bells. This group will perform in several concerts throughout the school year.

Advanced Handbells

This elective course is offered to high school students by invitation only. Students are challenged to continue building technical skill as they master advanced handbell arrangements. This concert ensemble will perform throughout the school year, including the annual Spring Fine Arts Tour.

Music Honors

An independent-study class is offered for the serious music student to study music theory and history. Requirements include the completion of a theory text, concert attendance, and quarterly research projects. Students must be a junior or senior enrolled in one of the major performing ensembles.

AP Music Theory

AP music theory is a college level theory class that develops musicianship skills including dictation and other listening skills, sight singing, and harmony. Through the course, students develop the ability to recognize, understand, and describe basic materials and processes of tonal music that are heard or presented in a musical score. Honors theory and music ensemble participation are prerequisites.

Pep Band

Students in Grades 7 through 12 may participate in this voluntary instrumental group that plays for home football games. Parents and alumni are also encouraged to join in.
