At Southside Christian School, our desire is to teach students how to live out Philippians 2:4, which says, “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”
Last year, the Middle School students partnered with Daily Bread Ministries in the Greer Soup Kitchen each month to serve those in need in the community. This year, the students will expand their reach and partner with the Greer Soup Kitchen, Miracle Hill, Ronald McDonald House and Rebuild Upstate.
Daily Bread Ministries feeds the hungry by providing one meal a day to whoever is in need and helps the homeless in the Greer community. Groups of students will visit the Greer Soup Kitchen once a month to help clean, sort, and feed the homeless.
Miracle Hill’s mission is to meet the needs of the homeless physically, emotionally, and spiritually by pointing them to Christ. This year, Middle School students will serve each month by sorting and cleaning at the Mauldin thrift store.
The Ronald McDonald House strives to create “a world where all children have access to medical care and their families are supported and actively involved in their children’s care.” Our students will help bake treats and deliver them to young people and families at the children’s hospital.
Rebuild Upstate “exists to repair the homes of our low-income neighbors to make homes safer, healthier, and more livable.” Starting in November, our students will work on homes in the area that need repairs and upgrades.
In addition to these service opportunities, eighth graders will partner with a Title 1 middle school in Hampton, Virginia during their trip to Williamsburg in the spring. They will take needed resources and encourage the students and teachers at the school.
Our students are actively being the hands and feet of Jesus in the community and beyond this school year, and we are praying that both the lives of our students and those they touch will be impacted for the glory of God.
