She was hired as Upward Sports’ first in-house graphic designer in 2001. In 2005, she started an independent freelance graphic design business, Fuzzy Bison Design, allowing her to work remotely and service clients locally and across the country.
In 2001, she married her husband, Matt. They had the opportunity to serve on a worship team at a church for ten years, giving them the opportunity to travel to India and partner with others. Their band led worship for nation leaders in Kolkata.
Carla says, “The trip opened my eyes to Christian oppression and has continually impacted my view of our nation’s freedoms and how we choose to use those freedoms to meet the physical and spiritual needs of others.”
Carla and Matt have a 15 year-old daughter, Scout, and a three year-old son, Charlie. They love getting outside, hiking, biking, enjoying the mountains, and taking road trips together as a family.
Carla says, “I am so grateful to my parents for having the spiritual and financial commitment to Christian education for my brother and I. SCS not only prepared me academically for college and beyond, but also helped ground me spiritually. I was surrounded daily by godly teachers and coaches who were showing up for more than just a job. By their words and actions, they truly cared for their students. As a goofy kid, I never appreciated it in the moment, but their investment in my life is something for which I will forever be grateful.”
