Support

Rooted and Rising

Through the Give Your Year campaign, the SCS community has the opportunity to give May 1-5 to the building expansion project.

You can donate your graduation year, your child's graduation year, or your grandchild's graduation year, or you can make a donation in honor of the class of 2023!

Need an example of how you can give based on your graduation year? For 2023, you can donate $20.23, $23, $230, $2,023—the options are limitless!

Small and big donations are appreciated just the same as we work to glorify God in raising funds for the new building. Click here to give.

The Rooted and Rising Capital Campaign

Southside Christian School exists to transform students’ lives through Christian education. We are proactively engaging our students’ hearts and minds to prepare them to serve God in any number of roles. In every corner of our society, we need strong believers who are experts in their fields and are willing to speak truth to a world searching for answers.

We have done so for over 50 years and will continue to prepare students for this exact purpose by partnering with Christian parents to provide an excellent, Christian education.

The impact of this mission has been growing for many years. Each division at Southside Christian School continues to grow – Early Education, Elementary School, Middle School, and High School.

A growing enrollment, coupled with modular classrooms that need to be replaced means it's time to add bricks and mortar classrooms to our campus!

Rooted and Rising is a multi-year capital campaign to provide funding for a 63,000 sq. ft. expansion including more instructional space for all of SCS.

Groundbreaking April 2022

Thank you to all who joined us for groundbreaking as we celebrated God's faithfulness and provision in the life of SCS! We are proud to announce that the new building will be named in honor of our founders, Walt and Libby Handford.

  • Why is this building needed?

Throughout over 50 years in ministry, SCS has a history of adding and growing. While we have made many renovations and added modular classrooms, we have not added additional bricks and mortar construction in 27 years. For years, SCS has had a growing enrollment. Coupled with the need to replace temporary, modular classrooms on campus, the expansion project will provide a much needed 35 classrooms, co-learning spaces, extra-curricular spaces, student success services instructional space, along with parking, roadway, and carline improvements across campus.
  • Doesn't my tuition cover this growth?

SCS operates on a cost-basis tuition model. Meaning we only charge in tuition and fees what it costs to operate. While tuition is an investment from our parents, SCS does not profit from tuition and fees. Our annual operating budget is comprised of over 70% going to staff salaries and benefits, and the rest going to instructional tools, maintenance, technology, fine arts, and athletics. To meet the demand of a growing school, we must raise through gifts and donations the amount needed for this expansion. Tuition provides for today, philanthropy fuels our future.
  • What if my child will graduate before the expansion is complete?

We are grateful to be standing on the shoulders of over 50 years of staff, parents, and students all partnering together to make SCS an excellent education based on biblical truth. It is because of previous generations of generous supporters that we exist today. Our students today benefit from the diligent investments donors have made throughout our history. Gifts given to support the Rooted and Rising campaign will provide facilities for future generations of SCS students to benefit from.
  • What is the Rooted and Rising Capital Campaign?

The Rooted and Rising Capital Campaign is a fundraising initiative to provide the needed $19.5 million for brick and mortar instructional space expansion.
  • How big will SCS become?

This expansion will allow us to be a campus of around 1,400 students. As we grow, we are committed to being intentionally relational. We know relationships and community take work and we are committed to enabling relationships among parents, students, and staff. We believe education can be transformational – when it is in the context of a relationship. Through small class sizes, discipleship groups, clubs, teams, volunteer opportunities, and community life events, we will seek to build deep relationships between staff, students, and parents. SCS provides big school opportunities, with a small school community.
  • Who should give to this project?

We are asking every person in the SCS community to be a part of making this expansion a reality. So far in this campaign, gifts have ranged from $100 to $2.5 million and everywhere in between. Not everyone can give the same amount, but everyone can generously support the ministry of SCS. It will take the entire SCS family to fully fund this expansion.
  • How do I give to this project?

We understand that planning and timing can allow you to be generous. Gifts to the Rooted and Rising campaign can be one-time, quarterly, or annually, spread over three years. SCS also accepts gifts of real estate, stocks, and other assets. For these gifts, we work with third-party services to turn the asset into cash that we will put entirely toward the Rooted and Rising Campaign. Contractors and providers also have an opportunity to give to SCS through gift-in-kind giving via a reduced cost of goods or services that will help us complete the expansion project.
