Ruby Carswell, Early Education teacher
"Southside Christian School has been an integral part in my journey with Christ. Being a part of Southside Christian School, has given me the opportunity to love others and serve others - to be an inkling of the hands and feet of Jesus so that I may be a reflection of His great love."
When did you begin at SCS?
I began serving at SCS in October 2000. I started with Southside Fellowship when the school and church were connected. By the next year, I was working for both the school and the church.
What is one of your greatest memories?
Oh, I have so many. I potty train children, so imagine. However, one of my sweetest memories was with a student who spoke little and subsequently, understood less English. One day, we made the connection of understanding one another. From that day forward, she soaked in everything. She was able to share with me, her friends, and her family all that she learned throughout the remainder of the school year. She had the biggest brown eyes. Her eyes gained a twinkle as we grew to understand one another.
Why do you feel that Christian education is important even to the smallest children in early education?
“So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.” Romans 10:17 NLT Start early! God’s word is at the center of everything we teach the little ones. What a better time to hear Truth? So that, the foundation of faith begins early and remains strong.
What would you say to a parent who is considering sending their child/children to SCS?
As a parent, what a treasure to know the people pouring into the lives of your children love Jesus first and foremost. “We love each other because he loved us first.” I John 4:19 NLT Children have teachers that are passionate about children, families, teaching and Jesus. As both a parent and a teacher here, Southside Christian School feels like family.
