Mrs. Christy Boggs, Lower School faculty member
"Your children will have teachers that truly care about their well-being. Your children will make friends that will last a lifetime. They will grow spiritually. They will receive an excellent education. I can speak from personal experience. We chose SCS and it was the best decision for our family."
When did you begin at Southside Christian School?
After much deliberation and prayer, I applied for a teaching position in 2006. I felt that God wanted to move my boys to a new school due to their love of all things sports but God had an even greater plan. He used my desire to keep my children in Christian education to move me as well. I remember touring the Lower School and being so impressed. The teachers and faculty were so welcoming and inviting. I just felt God’s presence in this place. I left the tour knowing that both our sons would attend in the fall. But doubts crept in. I wasn’t sure if we would be able to make things work financially if both sons attended and I taught at SCS. Over time, God gave peace to our family, which assured us that SCS was the place he wanted for all of us. At that point, we stepped out in faith and made the move as a family. We have all been happy here. This is exactly the place God wanted us. My husband has since joined the SCS staff as well.
How has Southside Christian School changed over time while you have been teaching?
One of the things that has changed the most is our school environment. This school has always maintained a beautiful campus but God just keeps blessing us. I am amazed at all that he has provided for our school. When I started, I remember attending football games (which I have always loved) and noticing that the stadium was a bit outdated. Since then, God has provided so beautifully for our needs. We now have a state-of-the-art stadium and an equally fantastic track for our athletes. Southside Christian School has also done a great job of remaining on trend with technology and teaching practices.
One thing that has not changed is the presence of God you feel when you step on campus. The Holy Spirit is something you feel and experience in all areas of our campus, which is something that hasn’t changed since the first time I experienced SCS.
What is one of your greatest memories at Southside Christian School?
I have several memories that make me smile. Some are funny. Some heart-warming. One memory, in particular, was a bit embarrassing. During one of our all-school talent shows, our music teacher decided that he needed an assistant to dance on stage alongside him. Of course, he was going to select “at random” a teacher to participate ( I think this was planned all along). Of course, he insisted that I join him which I did reluctantly. I was afraid of embarrassing my then senior and freshman sons. To my surprise, they both were pleased that I was a “willing” participate. It is a fun memory! We still laugh about the talent show to this day.
My greatest memory has to be the day that I was able to lead a sweet student of mine to the Lord. This sweet young lady just asked if she could talk with me privately about something that was very important. We stepped to the doorway and there in the Lower School hallway she gave her heart and life to the Lord. It was a day and an experience that is etched in my memory and I will treasure always.
In your opinion, what makes Southside Christian School unique?
The thing that makes SCS unique are the people in this place. The people here love the Lord. They love one another. I can honestly say that the staff and faculty that I have the privilege of working with feel like my family. I know that may sound cliché but they truly do. I have seen faculty grieve with other faculty members. Rejoice and be excited for one another. The people here love like God loves and that makes this a special place. It’s not something that we are doing, it is something that God does through us. The families that support SCS, the faculty and staff at SCS, along with the students that attend SCS make our school unique.
What would you say to a parent who is considering enrolling their children at Southside Christian School?
I would say to the parent, if make the decision to enroll your children at SCS, you will not look back and be sorry. Your children will have teachers that truly care about their well -being. Your children will make friends that will last a lifetime. They will grow spiritually. They will receive an excellent education. I can speak from personal experience. We chose SCS and it was the best decision for our family.
