Athletic Announcements

We are excited to offer softball camps this summer for girls in rising 4th-12th grades.

Session 1 – June 24-27 (rising 7th-12th grade girls)
Session 2 – July 8-11 (rising 4th-6th grade girls)

Please click here for the information and return the registration form by June 23 for Session 1 and July 4 for Session 2. Registration forms can be emailed to ladair@southsidechristian.org or returned to the school by mail or in-person at the front desk.

 

We are excited to announce that we are exploring the opportunity to join the Carolina Middle School Conference.  This coming school year 2019-2020 will be a probationary year with the CMSC. This conference allows grades 6-8 to compete on middle school teams.

With this change, the following sports are available for grades 6-8:

  • Rec. Football for 6th graders
  • Rec. Cheer for 6th graders
  • JV Cheer for 7th-10th graders
  • MS Cross Country for boys and girls 6th-8th graders
  • MS Volleyball for 6th-8th graders
  • MS Football for 7th-8th graders
  • MS Basketball for girls 6th-8th graders
  • MS Basketball for boys 6th-8th graders
  • MS baseball 6th-8th graders

We are also considering adding the following sports:

  • MS track for boys and girls in 6th-8th grade
  • MS girls soccer for 6th-8th grade
  • MS boys soccer for 6th-8th grade

Summer Schedule for Fall Sports

Cross Country
Rising 6th-12th grade boys and girls – Coach Tim Gibbons (tagnrun@aol.com)
Practice will start Monday, June 3. Monday, Wednesday, Friday at times/locations listed below.
Mondays and Fridays – 6:30 a.m. at SCS
Wednesdays – 7:30 a.m. at Heritage Park

Girls’ Tennis
Rising 7th-12th grade girls – Coach Kip Tutman (ctutman@gmail.com)
Practice/tryouts will be held August 2, 5-6, and 8 from 12:30-2:30 p.m. at Holly Tree Country Club.

Girls’ Golf
Rising 7th-12th grade girls – Coach TBA
Athletic Director, Mike Johnson will come to MS & HS lunch on Wednesday, May 22 to meet with those interested in playing.

Swimming
Rising 7th-12th grade boys and girls – Coach Kathy Nelson (knelson@southsidechristian.org)
Swimmers are encouraged to swim in the summer sail program with their team or continue with their year round team.  Practice will start in early August at
Orchard Farms Subdivision pool.

Volleyball
Rising 6th-12th grade girls – Coach Priscilla LeGrand (plegrand@southsidechristian.org)
Practices combined with strength training will start Tuesday, June 18.
Tuesdays and Thursdays – 3-6 p.m.
Wednesdays – 3-5:30 p.m.
Strength training will take place from 3-4 p.m. and volleyball practices will be from 4-5:30/6 p.m.
The expectation for our volleyball players is that they will be in attendance 80% of the time.  This is a valuable time to improve physical strength, endurance, gain
skills, acquire knowledge of the game, improve physical strength, endurance and for injury prevention.  This means they can miss 3 days.  Anything beyond 80% (3
days) must be made up before tryouts begin.  If an athlete knows she will miss more than 3 days, she can go to Coach LeGrand to get workouts.

Football

Practices combined with strength training will start Monday, June 10.  Practice will be held Monday – Thursday each week at the times listed below.
MS (rising 7th-8th grade) – 8-9:30 a.m.
HS (rising 9th-12th grade) – 9-11/11:30 a.m.

*Take note!  No practices for any sport June 30-July 6 and July 29-August 1, per the SC High School League.*

Girls’ Basketball

Open gym and strength training will start June 10.
Mondays and Wednesdays – 8:45-11:15 a.m.

Boys’ Basketball
Rising 6th-12th grade boys- Coach Rick Remer (rremer@southsidechristian.org)
Open gym will start June 10.
MS (rising 6th-8th grade) – Tuesday 6-7:15 p.m.
HS (rising 9th-12th grade) – Mondays and Wednesdays – 10:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays – 8:45-11:15 a.m.

Baseball
Rising 6th-12th grade boys – Coach Kenneth Ledford (kledford@southsidechristian.org)
Summer practices combined with strength training will start June 4.
Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays – 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Softball

Summer practices combined with strength training will start June 11.
Tuesdays and Thursdays – 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Track
Rising 12th grade boys and girls – Coach DeAnn Walpole (dwalpole@southsidechristian.org)
Any track athletes not competing in a fall sport are encouraged to run summer track for AAU or USATF. Contact Coach Walpole if interested. Track athletes are also encouraged to participate in strength training at the school on Monday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
