Vocal Music

General Music is offered to every student in grades K-5.  Lessons are taught by experienced clinicians that use a variety of teaching methods to allow the student to experience, participate and intellectually understand the joys and benefits of music.  Special emphasis is placed on understanding talent as a gift from God.

Middle School Choir is an elective for 7th and 8th grade students.  This class emphasizes part-singing and ensemble techniques in singing.  Special attention is given to the changing nature of the voice at this age.  This class will perform in several public concerts throughout the school year.

High School Choir is an elective course for students in grade 9-12.  This class teaches more advanced vocal skills and sight singing.  These skills will be demonstrated in several public performances throughout the school year, including the annual Spring Contest Trip.

Sounds and Sabres is an elective course for select students in grades 9-12.  This class is a vocal music class that is by audition only and explores chamber music and small ensemble techniques.  This class is actively involved with school and community programs, as well as competition.  (Prerequisites: must be selected by audition)

Music Honors is an independent study class that allows serious music students to study music theory and history.  Requirements include the completion of a theory text, private lessons, concert attendance and quarterly research projects.  (Prerequisites: must be a junior or senior enrolled in one of the major performing ensembles)

Elementary Singers is a select ensemble that meets after school for one hour each week to study ensemble vocal music and performance.  The emphasis of study will be mostly from, but not exclusive to, the standard and classical repertoire.  Membership in this ensemble is by audition only.
