Guidance services take many forms as faculty and staff work in partnership with parents to facilitate student growth and development. The teachers and staff are at the grassroots of guidance, providing loving direction each day. In addition, college and career counseling for high school students is provided by the guidance counselor.

A variety of additional resources are available to support students in spiritual, academic, and professional growth. Seminars are offered on various topics such as financial aid for college and interpretation of standardized test scores.

Guidance Director

Kathy Ring is the SCS guidance counselor, helping students and their parents with course selection and preparation for college. She is also responsible for grades, report cards, and transcripts for all students in the school, as well as teaching Home Economics in the high school. Prior to joining Southside, Mrs. Ring worked as an interior design consultant in a home fabric store and supervised accounting offices for the US Army Commissary Region in Northern Germany, Xidex-Dysan (an international computer hardware manufacturer) in Silicon Valley, and General Dynamics in San Diego.

Mrs. Ring holds a Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Science from Hood College in Frederick, Maryland, and has attended the University of Maryland and Middle Tennessee State University for various other coursework. She is currently working on her Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction/School Guidance at Columbia International University. She is ACSI certified.
