Southside Private Musicians (SPM)
It is the purpose of Southside Private Musicians (SPM) to serve families of students enrolled in Southside Christian School by providing affordable and convenient music lessons, given by trained professionals, in order to further the development of God given talents and encourage the use of those talents in the local church. Southside Private Musicians exists to provide private instruction in piano, voice, wind instruments, percussion and violin. Trained professionals provide these lessons with an emphasis on classical training and the technical development. SPM teachers are not faculty members of Southside Christian School. They are private contractors who have agreed to teach at SCS for the convenience of the school’s families. Each teacher is carefully screened before being assigned studio space.

BENJI ALLSEP: (BRASS) Benji received his B.A. in Music from Anderson University. There he was the first chair player and section leader of the premier university ensemble for 4 years. He continues to play third chair for the Anderson Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Allsep has been playing the Horn for 13 years and the trumpet for 16 years. He developed proficiency with low brass through his college training. He has played brass for the Rock Springs Church Orchestra since 1994, and has served as music judge for local area band concerts and competitions for the past three years. Mr. Allsep also taught private lesson on Horn and Trombone at the Academy of Music at Rock Springs Baptist Church. Mr. Allsep uses a non-conventional approach to teaching; confidence first, technique second and proficiency third.

EMILY BROERE: (PIANO) Emily is the newest member of our staff and comes to us from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She has been teaching piano for over 10 years, both in her own studio and most recently through Piano Central in Greenville. Emily has a B.S. in Arts and Science with a major in Piano Performance from Maranatha Baptist Bible College and a Master of Music in Piano Pedagogy from Bob Jones University. Emily is a Beethoven Piano Festival winner and performed with the Red Cedar Chamber group as the featured guest artist. She brings a background of Suzuki training and experience with recitals and concerts. Emily serves as a pianist in her local church. (Opening Available)
TOM CAMPBELL: (GUITAR) Tom is a 1973 graduate of VanderCook College of Music with a degree in Music Education. His primary instrument was clarinet, and secondary instruments, flute and saxophone. He has taught band in Illinois, Texas, and Georgia. In 1971, Tom visited the Chicago Guitar Gallery to view their collection of high-end Ramariez guitars. He walked out with a used Yamaha guitar and taught himself to play. This was the beginning of a life-long love for the instrument. He enjoys teaching the guitar, especially to young beginners. Tom enjoys playing celtic, bluegrass, and folk music.
HOLLY CAPRELL: (VOICE) Holly is in her third year teaching with SPM. Holly studied vocal performance at Converse College and is active as a teacher and performer in the community. She is also heavily involved with music responsibilities at her church as well as volunteering with the Greenville Fine Arts Center, Greenville County Youth Orchestra and Foothill Philharmonic. STEPHANIE DAVIS: (PIANO) Stephanie holds a B.M. degree from Converse College in Piano Performance and an M.M.degree from the University of Michigan in piano performance and piano pedagogy. She was named as one of five national winners of the Baldwin Fellowship Award, which recognizes excellence in the field of piano teaching. Stephanie has over 15 years of teaching experience, and she is an active member of the Greenville Music Teachers Association and the National Federation of Music Clubs. (Openings Available)
ELAINE GRAYBEAL: (PIANO) Elaine has 35 years teaching experience. Her degrees in music include a B.A. from Tennessee Temple University (piano), an M.A.L.S. from Hollins College (piano) and an M.M. from Converse College (organ). She has been a featured soloist in numerous professional recitals and is an active church musician. She is an active member and officer of the Greenville Music Teachers Association and a member of the National Federation of Music Clubs. (Openings Available)
RITA HASSIG: (PIANO) Rita has more than 25 years teaching experience. She teaches piano (and organ) both at SCS and her private studio. She is an active member and past president of the Greenville Music Teachers Association and a member of the American College of Musicians (Piano Guild Auditions). She has been an auditions adjudicator throughout the southeast the past 10 years. She is also a member of the Greenville chapter of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) and the National Federation of Music Clubs. In addition to earning her B.A. and M.A. degrees in Organ Performance from Bob Jones University she was awarded the AGO’s Service-Playing Certificate and the Bronze Medal for the Piano Guild’s International Piano Recording Competition. She maintains an active performance and practice schedule between her duties as church organist/accompanist at Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church, and weddings and recitals. (Openings Available)
WALTER HUNDT: (PIANO) Walter has received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in piano performance from Bob Jones University and has continued study at the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. Mr. Hundt has played for Greenville Symphony Orchestra, the South Carolina Children’s Theatre, the Greenville Little Theatre, the Warehouse Theatre and accompanies various soloists and ensembles throughout the area. With over 25 years of teaching experience, he has been a full time private piano instructor in the Greenville area since 1997. He is also an active member of the National Music Teachers’ Association and the National Federation of Music Clubs. Mr. Hundt serves as the Music Director and organist in his local church.
KATY MARTIN: (STRINGS) Katy has a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and a Master’s in Education from Converse College. She has been active teaching strings for many years in the Greenville area. Katy also plays professionally with both the Spartanburg Philharmonic and the Carolina Pops. She is actively involved with the music ministry at Woodruff Road Presbyterian Church. (Openings Available)
GARY MUDRE: (PIANO AND THEORY) Gary is very active teaching piano and private theory lessons throughout the Greenville area. Prior to coming to the Greenville area, Gary was taught at the Steinway Piano Studio in Westport, Connecticut. Gary received his Bachelor’s degree from Eastman School of Music, where he also taught undergraduate Music Theory classes while working on his advanced degree. Gary has recorded a CD of music by Rachmaninoff and is currently working on his next professional recording. Many of his advanced students have won scholarships at prestigious music schools. BRAD SCOTT: (PERCUSSION) Brad is a graduate of Clemson University where he was percussion section leader for both the marching and symphonic bands. While at Clemson, he also performed with the Jazz Band, Pep Band and Symphony Orchestra. Brad has taught private students for over 10 years and has served as the percussion instructor for Berea High School and Lexington High School. Brad is currently active playing in the Greenville area and writing percussion music for local high schools. (Limited Openings)
