Gena Greer is in her fifth year teaching third grade at Southside Christian School.  Prior to teaching at SCS, she taught in Spartanburg District Five for five years, assisting in the writing of the gifted and talented music curriculum.  Feeling God’s call to spend more time at home with her children, she pursued her Kindermusik educator license and taught eight classes each week in North Carolina and South Carolina.  In 2004, Mrs. Greer began teaching music part-time at Spartanburg Day School. 

Mrs. Greer received her BA in Music Education from Anderson College and her Masters of Education with honors in Elementary Education from Converse College.  She was named one of the fastest start-up Kindermusik educators in North Carolina. She developed and taught the music program at Augusta Road Baptist Child Development Center.  She has instructed many “children learning through music” professional development clinics for teachers and staff of local child care centers for certification/renewal hours.  Mrs. Greer holds a current South Carolina Teaching Certificate in the areas of Elementary Education and Music Education.  Mrs. Greer holds an Association of Christian Schools International certificate as well.

Mrs. Greer and her husband, Tyler, have three children, Clayton, Chloe, and Caroline, all of whom attend SCS.  Along with her deep love of music, Mrs. Greer enjoys serving at her church as part of an American Sign Language choir called “Silent Praise”.  She also enjoys spending time in the mountains, hiking to waterfalls, scrapbooking, sewing, and spending time with her family.  She loves eating out at all restaurants but especially enjoys Mexican, Japanese, and Thai food.  

One of Mrs. Greer’s favorite passages from the Bible is Zephaniah 3:17.

The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save.  He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.
