Southside Christian Private Musicians
It is the purpose of Southside Christian Private Musicians (SCPM) to serve families of students enrolled in Southside Christian School by providing convenient lessons, given by trained professionals, in order to further the development of God given talents and encourage the use of those talents in the local church.
SCPM teachers provide private instruction in piano, voice, wind instruments, string instruments, and guitar with an emphasis on classical training and the technical development of the student’s gifts.
STEPHANIE DAVIS: (PIANO)
Stephanie holds a B.M. degree from Converse College in Piano Performance and an Master of Music degree from the University of Michigan in piano performance and piano pedagogy. She was named as one of five national winners of the Baldwin Fellowship Award, which recognizes excellence in the field of piano teaching. Stephanie has over 25 years of teaching experience, and she is an active member of the Greenville Music Teachers Association and the National Federation of Music Clubs. She is also active as a performer, accompanying local ensembles, and serving as church pianist at Holly Ridge Baptist Church. (Openings Available)
RITA HASSIG: (PIANO)
Rita has more than 25 years teaching experience. She teaches piano (and organ) both at SCS and her private studio. She is an active member and past president of the Greenville Music Teachers Association and a member of the American College of Musicians (Piano Guild Auditions). She has been an auditions adjudicator throughout the southeast the past 25 years. She is also a member of the Greenville chapter of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) and the National Federation of Music Clubs. In addition to earning her B.A. and M.A. degrees in Organ Performance from Bob Jones University she was awarded the AGO’s Service-Playing Certificate and the Bronze Medal for the Piano Guild’s International Piano Recording Competition. Mrs. Hassig continues to serve as church organist at Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church, whose duties include accompanying both the chancel choir and soloists and ensembles as needed on either piano or organ. TOM CAMPBELL: (GUITAR & WOODWINDS)
Tom is a 1973 graduate of VanderCook College of Music with a degree in Music Education. His primary instrument was clarinet, and secondary instruments, flute and saxophone. He has taught band in Illinois, Texas, and Georgia. In 1971, Tom visited the Chicago Guitar Gallery to view their collection of high-end Ramariez guitars. He walked out with a used Yahmaha guitar and taught himself to play. This was the beginning of a life-long love for the instrument. He enjoys teaching the guitar, especially to young beginners. Tom enjoys playing celtic, bluegrass, and folk music. (Openings Available)
HOLLY CAPRELL: (VOICE)
Holly studied vocal performance at Converse College and has been teaching voice and piano for over 18 years. She has been an active performer and music director in area theaters and churches. Since 2007, Holly has been the executive director for Greenville County Youth Orchestras. (Openings Available)
GARY MUDRE: (PIANO AND THEORY)
Gary is very active teaching piano and private theory lessons throughout the Greenville area. Prior to coming to the Greenville area, Gary was taught at the Steinway Piano Studio in Westport, Connecticut. Gary received his Bachelor’s degree from Eastman School of Music, where he also taught undergraduate Music Theory classes while working on his advanced degree. Gary has recorded a CD of music by Rachmaninoff and is currently working on his next professional recording. Many of his advanced students have won scholarships to prestigious music schools. JULIE CROWE: (CELLO)
Julie Crowe obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Music from Erskine College in May 2014 with violin as her primary instrument and cello as her secondary. Julie has a passion for the violin family and has been giving strings lessons since the Summer of 2011. Julie has been participating in her hometown church’s Sunday morning instrumental ensemble since the spring of 2009 and is a member of a string quartet she founded, Notes and Nuptials, since 2016. Julie was married on December 27, 2014 and currently resides in Gray Court with her husband, Tommy, and sons, Billy, Asaph, and Andy.
Fred Barrett:(VIOLIN, VIOLA)
2017 marks the first year for Fred at Southside Christian School. Fred has been active teaching private voice, violin, guitar, and piano for the last 7 years. Fred graduated from Bob Jones University with a degree in Music Education. After graduation he taught at Artios Academies of Greenville for 6 years. While there he taught both classroom and private studio lessons. Fred continues to be very active in his church worship ministry, and thoroughly enjoys seeing students better their musical gifts.
