The Distinguished Alumni Award is presented annually to one or more former students who are exemplary Christians and have demonstrated a desire to serve the Lord beyond their years at SCS. The 2011 Distinguished Alumni is Jim Thompson. Jim is a member of the class of 1999. While at SCS, Jim received the Christian Leadership Award, the highest honor presented to a graduating senior. He participated in the athletics program on the basketball and cross country teams.
Jim received a BA in Christian Studies from North Greenville University in 2003 and an MDiv from Columbia International University in 2007. He served as a student pastor at Southside Fellowship and began teaching at SCS in 2008.
In May of 2011, Jim published his first book, A King and A Kingdom: A Narrative Theology of Grace and Truth. Infused with the same passion and insight that Jim brings to his Redemptive History and Systematic Theology classes each day at Southside Christian School, his newly published narrative of grace and truth is brimming with the richness of the Word of God.
Jim and his wife Sara have one son, James. He enjoys music, reading, philosophy, basketball, the outdoors, and the University of South Carolina Gamecocks. |
