“There is no such thing as Christian education that is too academic.” From Piety and Philosophy by Richard Riesen
While Christian education is a broad concept based upon nurturing a biblical worldview within our students, it is important to remember that truly Christian education must be characterized by academic excellence. Stated another way, our biblical worldview compels us to pursue academic rigor. We are commanded to do all things to the glory of God, and Christian schools bring glory to Him when they help each student fully develop academically. In Piety and Philosophy, Richard Riesen states, “(Christians) must themselves engage the world intellectually, even at the cutting edge. Far from enervating our interest in academic things, our faith ought to inflame it…There is no such thing as Christian education that is too academic”.
“Continuous improvement of the educational program” is one of eight strategic initiatives within our five-year plan. The plan includes a series of specific action steps that will move us toward this objective. SCS also identifies and recruits master teachers who are equipped to make an immediate impact on the academic progress of our students. We maintain a strong commitment to the professional development of our teachers, and include it as one of three important areas funded by our Annual Giving Program.
