At-A-Glance
- Southside Christian School serves approximately 1100 students beginning at 18 months of age and continuing through 12th grade on one campus.
- SAT scores for the Class of 2009 averaged 537 verbal, 517 math, and 521 writing; compared to national averages of 501, 515, and 493 and South Carolina state averages of 486, 496, and 470.
- ACT composite score for the Class of 2009 averaged 24.6, compared to a national average of 21.1 and a South Carolina state average of 19.8.
- One hundred percent of the class of 2009 received college acceptances.
- Forty-six members (72%) of the class of 2009 received college scholarships. Four students received “full rides” – or scholarships covering all four-years of college.
- In 2009, 63 Upper School students took 101 advanced placement (AP) exams. Eighty-two percent of the exams were scored as "3" or higher. Most colleges and universities give course credit or advanced standing to students who score a "3" or above on the AP exams.
- The Upper School offers 10 AP and 21 honors courses.
- Colleges and Universities that have accepted SCS students include Clemson Honors College, USC Honors College, The Air Force Academy, Harvard Law School, Georgia Institute of Technology, West Point, Furman University, Tulane, Virginia Tech, University of Florida, University of Miami, Wake Forest, Penn State, The Citadel, and Auburn; and Christian institutions including Bryan College, Liberty University, Bob Jones University, Cedarville University, and Wheaton College.
- Seven members of the class of 2009 qualified for the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship, worth at least $26,000 over four years. The criteria for the Palmetto Fellowship include all of the following: 1200 or higher on the SAT or 27 on the ACT, 3.5 grade point ratio, and a ranking in their class of the top 6% during the sophomore, junior, or senior year; or 1400 or higher on the SAT or 32 on the ACT and 4.0 grade point ratio.
- Twenty-eight members qualified for the Life Scholarship of $20,000 over four years, with grade point averages of 3.0 or higher and at least an 1100 on the SAT or a 24 on the ACT.
- The students of SCS were the first ever recipients of The Order of the Silver Crescent presented by the state of South Carolina. Governor David Beasley, in his State of the State Address, referred to our students as “the inspiration for a new state honor, patterned after The Order of the Palmetto, to recognize extraordinary youth.” The Governor went on to say, “These young people represent the best of South Carolina.”
- More than $218,500 in financial aid assistance was granted to 181 students or approximately 90 SCS families for 2009-10.
- Southside offers After School Care and Extended Day Programs.
- The Fine Arts Department offers nine music performance groups. In 2002, the High School band was selected as the South Carolina Musical Ambassador to the National Memorial Day Celebration in Washington DC.
- The Speech and Drama Department stages full theatrical productions which in recent years have included Scarlet Pimpernel, Fiddler on the Roof, Little Women, Treasure Island and The Sound Of Music. This year’s fall production is Music Man.
- SCS students compete in the SC High School League in 18 sports.
- SCS offers two interactive science labs for students in the Early Education program and the Lower School. The EE Explore Lab won recognition by ACSI as an "Exemplary School Program."
- Two computer labs are available to SCS students in the Lower School and Upper School. The computers in our labs are replaced every four years to ensure that our students are being taught on current technology.
